San Juan, Puerto Rico
This master plan for three blocks in the Santurce district of downtown San Juan, Puerto Rico is an ongoing project in conjunction with the Ciudadela development. Local Office Landscape and Urban Design created a three phase master plan, including the implementation of the largest built rooftop solar array in the Caribbean.
The first phase of the project was a retrofit of existing site buildings to incorporate renewable systems.
The second phase was an urban design plan to shape proposed building envelopes optimized for wind and solar energy collection.
The third phase integrates the building systems with a public park. The plan establishes performance guidelines for the park and open spaces, connecting Phases 1 and 2 with a new cultural public space adjacent to the existing Museum of Art of Puerto Rico.
